Plan School Holidays with a Year Calendar

Select your federal state and a year – the planner shows all holiday blocks, school-free days and a complete year calendar.

How the School Holiday Planner Works

All dates come from the official holiday calendar of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs (KMK), as of 09.10.2025. The first and last day of each holiday are given. In addition, the calendar shows the statutory public holidays of your federal state – so the start or end of a holiday can be combined with public holidays and bridge days for an even longer break.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do the school holiday dates come from?

From the official holiday calendar of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs (KMK). The KMK agrees on the summer holidays in the long term; all other dates are set by the federal states themselves and reported to the KMK.

Why do school holidays differ between the federal states?

Each federal state sets its own holiday dates under state law – except for the long-term agreed summer holidays. That is why holidays such as Easter or autumn break start and end at different times in each state.

What are school-free days?

These are individual days without school (e.g. movable holiday days or bridge days after public holidays) that the states schedule in addition to the holiday blocks. They are marked separately in the calendar.

How long are the summer holidays?

The summer holidays last about six weeks in each federal state; the exact dates differ from state to state and year to year.
